About Me
My name is Erik Vossman and I am 24 years old. I grew up in South Eastern Wisconsin in both Wauwatosa (until 3rd grade) then Delafield and the Kettle Moraine area. I am currently living in Honolulu, Hawaii after accepting a job at a Biotech Company. I have 1 older brother (3 years older) a step sister and my parents. They all live in Wisconsin still although my brother is temporarily there. He just finished up 4 years with the Airborne and is now taking some much deserved rest.
I have lived a somewhat eventful life so far although I wouldn’t say book worthy. I have played sports all my life, playing quarterback for my High school Football team and becoming and all-state runner for my track team. I ran Cross Country and Track for a year and a half in College for the University of Stevens Point where I studied mostly the sciences. I then transferred into the biomedical engineering program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor mid-way through my sophomore year. I was planning to walk on to the distance team the following year. That was short lived due to getting diagnosed with cancer when I returned home my sophomore summer.
I managed to fit 2 surgeries and 2 months of chemo therapy into the summer and made it back to school in the fall without skipping a beat. My last day of chemo therapy was the day before I drove back. The major surgery, an RPLND, didn’t have time to heal since I went directly into chemo (not doctor recommended) right afterwards. There was a foot long incision down my abdomen that needed to heal and I wasn’t letting it. Needless to say I spent the first semester of my junior year, 3 times a day, going back to my apartment and packing gauze into 4 - 1 inch deep holes in my abdomen. They eventually healed and I finished college on-time, 4 years after I started with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. I actually finished 12 credits shy of getting my masters in biomedical engineering but instead decided that $90,000 of debt was enough and took a job on a professor’s kind recommendation in Honolulu, Hawaii.
I am now living in Honolulu and working for Tissue Genesis, Inc. I enjoy where I am right now and wouldn’t change the decisions I made for the world. Some of them were mistakes, some were not, but I learned from them all. Over the past few months I have come across a new found vigor for trying to accomplish things. I have always had goals and projects and hobbies that I start. Some I have stuck with others have fell by the wayside. I am now planning to develop the personal skills to accomplish these goals and plan on sharing that progress and insight with you through this blog. I hope you enjoy the ride and learn something a long the way.
